When to visit
Every season here has its delights and you can visit Yellowstone all year round.

More than half the total of annual visitors arrive in July and August, and accommodation in the park gets very booked up. We have an extensive list of accommodations and can usually find you great places to stay even at this high season time.
June is a wonderful month to see wildlife and wildflowers. In September you can enjoy autumn colours and observe the elk rut. The shoulder seasons of May and October can be beautiful, though the weather may be cold, wet and snowy.
From November to April, winter engulfs the park, most roads close, temperatures plummet and facilities are limited. Take a snowmobile or snowcoach to see a winter wonderland of steaming geysers with incomparable wildlife viewing.

Holiday Ideas
There is so much for you to discover here that you can choose to stay in and around Yellowstone for most of your visit, especially if you like to explore places in depth. Grand Teton National Park is nearby and we highly recommend that you spend time there too, exploring its unforgettable mountain landscapes.
Perhaps you would like to travel further afield and explore some of the other fascinating places that this part of the USA offers. We have itineraries that, as well as Yellowstone and Grand Teton, visit Glacier National Park, or Mount Rushmore, or the Grand Canyon and the Grand Circle, or the 3 national parks near Seattle.
If you are the consummate road warrior, we can devise an itinerary for you that packs in the maximum number of places that your time availability will allow. If slow is your thing, we have perfect itineraries for that too.
With our experience and knowledge of this fascinating area of the USA, we can help you find your ideal itinerary, incorporating the places you want to see and the things you love doing, all at a pace that will please you.
Where to Stay?
Many US national parks have lodges inside the national park. Yellowstone has nine park lodges in 6 locations inside the park. The most famous is the Old Faithful Inn. Staying in a national park lodge can be a very memorable experience which will enhance your visit. Imagine strolling out of Old Faithful Inn and seeing an eruption of Old Faithful geyser! Staying in the park will also save you from having to queue to get into the park each day of your stay. Three good choices for a week’s stay inside the park might be Old Faithful, Mammoth and Lake Village.
Park lodges, however, are more expensive, get very booked up, have fewer facilities (often no swimming pools, no TVs, no wifi, and sometimes no ensuite facilities) and are quirkier (or might that be more characterful!) than the accommodation of the majority of standard hotels outside the park. We know several good options for staying just outside Yellowstone National Park. Three choices for a week’s stay might be West Yellowstone, Gardiner and Cody.
What to do?
Yellowstone has something for everyone. Maybe you delight in the challenge of a strenuous hike or perhaps you prefer to sit quietly and watch bison graze. Hiking, horseriding, nature and wildlife, camping, picnicking, biking, fishing, hunting, photography, watersports, rafting and tubing, winter sports, boat trips, guided tours and expeditions, ranger-led activities and talks – it’s all here for you to enjoy.
With so many adventures on offer you’ll be spoilt for choice. We have a library of information resources about activities in Yellowstone to help you choose. And do let us know if you have any particular special interests or hobbies, and we can advise you on the opportunities for adding additional adventures to your holiday.
