Holidays to the Dartmoor National Park
Rounded, weirdly organic-looking outcrops of weathered granite top the hills of upland moorland expanses in South Devon, England. These ‘tors’ are visible tips of the largest area of granite in Britain and, once seen, are never forgotten.
Dartmoor holds many antiquities and much archaeology, including the largest concentration of Bronze Age remains in the UK. A must-see is the Bronze Age settlement of Grimspound, 24 hut circles surrounded by a massive granite perimeter wall.
Dartmoor’s sometimes eery atmosphere has given rise to many myths and legends. It is the haunt of pixies, of headless horseman and the Dartmoor beast!
